Recently I have been working/volunteering at the Vancouver Crisis Center. It is amazing at how much of an impact I am already making having only finished 110 hours of training in 3 months!

It was just the other week that I saved a life. I mean, everyone saves lives every day, it just felt good to do it myself and with little guidance. I had just completed my training and our training wheels were officially left behind. I took a early shift which was my first shift without a mentor. Someone wanted to die and I helped keep them alive until help arrived.

That is as much detail as I can get into publicly but the work that the Crisis Center does is amazing, under appreciated, and what I love the most is that its educating.

The stigma behind mental health, crisis, and suicide or getting help behind this is most often not the actual case or misunderstood.

In short, the Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Center of BC is a non-profit, volunteer organization committed to helping people help themselves and others deal with crisis.

Everyone deals with crisis differently, some small others big, no crisis is under values or over valued. All is treated with the same presence of importance.

The call lines are answered 24/7. They are available to everyone in BC, if they cannot help you they can sure refer you to someone who can. There is more than just distress phone services offered there is also online chat and specific chat for youth. YouthInBC and CrisisCentreChat are two of the online chats open from 12(noon) to 1am 7 days a week.

I really feel like this is a good place for me to be and I feel like I am making an impact and doing my part in the world.
